Jim Kelly, Sensei



Jim Kelly, Sensei began my training in Jersey city NJ under Sensei D. Jenkins in 1972, study with Sensei Jenkins until his untimely death in 1984, was not uncommon in the early 70's for Sensei D. Nagle to visit our dojo on top the state movie theater and to work kumite with us.

Began teaching classes in 1981 at our main dojo in Kenvil, NJ.

Relocated to FL. in 1986, continued training and teaching at Cape Coral karate academy, until 1991 when I opened Cape Coral Isshinryu Karate Academy, have been open since teaching traditional karate.

Became a student of Shihan N. Adler in 1995, was promoted to the rank of Roku in July 2005, under Shihan Adler.

Have studied Jaido and Kendo under the late Kyoshi J Bass, earned the rank of San-kyu with Kyoshi.

Host an annual invitational traditional tournament only for past 10 yrs.

Was recently honored to be recipient of the "spirit of Isshinryu award", given by the Isshinryu Hall of Fame association, teaching at the same location for the past 16 yrs, have nine active black belts teaching at the dojo, recipient of the centurions spirit award, given by Shihan Adlers association.
