Master Luis Fernandez is currently an 8th dan black belt, and holds black belts in several martial arts styles. He is a hall of fame inductee and a national and world cup heavyweight Karate champion. He is a retired Miami Police sergeant formerly assigned to training where he specialized in officer survival tactics. He is a certified personal trainer, and founded the Miami Budokai in 1981 where he was able to fulfill his goal of bringing the major martial art systems and fitness programs together under one(1) roof.

Master Fernandez has also been featured in several movies, documentaries and has been published in Miami Medicine Magazine.
